June 30, 1835 Mexicans put down an uprising of colonists at Anahuac.
June 30, 1835 Mexican Army Capt. Antonio Tenorio surrenders the Anahuac garrison after spotting an advance by troops under the command of William B. Travis. Travis would later be criticized for allowing the Mexicans to leave after pledging that they would not take up arms against Texas.

June 29, 1852 Fort Riley was established near Brackettville. The name was later changed to Fort Clarke.

Today in Texas History
June 27, 1874 A Kiowa and Comanche war party commanded by Quanah Parker attacks buffalo hunters at Adobe Walls in what is now Hutchinson County on the Canadian River. Three hunters and 13 Indians are killed. The encounter, called the Second Battle of Adobe Walls, spurs the final military effort known as the Red River War to force the last Indians living east of the Pecos River into Indian Territory, now the state of Oklahoma.

Today in Texas History
June 20, 1924 Audie Murphy was born near Kingston, Texas. He grew up to be the most decorated soldier of WWII, and went on to star in 39 motion pictures.
June 20, 1841 The Santa Fé expedition, launched by Republic of Texas President Mirabeau B. Lamar without Texas Congressional authorization, leaves Central Texas on its way west to establish trade with and solidify Texas’ claims to territory around Santa Fé. Members of the group are taken prisoner by Mexican troops, marched to Mexico City and imprisoned. They are finally released in 1842.
June 20, 1928 The beaches at Galveston were crowded.
